WooCommerce Fix Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons. WooCommerce is the go-to plugin for anyone that is building a WordPress online store or e-commerce store. It is a free plugin that you can download on any WordPress site, that will enable you to add products, with both single prices and variable prices for things like clothes that have different sizes etc. WooCommerce is one of the most stable plugins I have used, and it is used on a literally millions of websites worldwide. Installation and setup are both very simple, it just walks you through a few simple steps and asks you about location and currency, the plugin will then let you set up and configure your online payment method, by default this is stripe or PayPal.

As I mentioned above, this is one of the most stable and supported plugins that I have ever used, and I’m very rarely have a problem with it. Recently when working with a customer, I was faced with this issue. I was trying to export the products from one online store to a new one on a different site. WooCommerce has a built-in feature for exporting and importing products which is really useful. There are paid plugins that you can install that will also let you do this, but they are really not needed, most of the time, as I find the inbuilt Import and export WooCommerce feature works so well.

So, I exported the products from one store, it exports it as a .CSV file. I then went to import it into another site store, using exactly the same method with the inbuilt import. Unfortunately, when I tried to import the file, I was met with a message that said “Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons”. I found this a bit strange as .CSV files are very commonly used, especially with databases.

After a little research I found a fantastic free plugin called “disable real mme check”, you can download it from here. After installing the plugin from the plugins page, I activated it, and tied the woocommerce import again. This time it worked with absolutely no problem at all. So, if you experience the same problem and need to fix sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons, simply download the plug-in from the link above, or Google “disable real mme check”, and it should take you to the download page also. Install the plugin and hopefully the problem will be fixed.
